Thomas G. Ciarlone, Jr. focuses on complex litigation, investor rights class actions and consumer protection litigation. His experience includes representing hedge funds, banks and high net-worth individuals in a variety of investment-related disputes, including several cases involving complex accounting frauds. Mr. Ciarlone has handled depositions of top officers of Fortune 500 companies, cross-examined expert witnesses in evidentiary hearings, and handles every aspect of pre-trial litigation from intake to settlement. He has also handled arbitrations and mediations before a number of major tribunals.
Among the cases in which Mr. Ciarlone has played a significant role are: In re Winstar Communications Securities Litigation, an accounting fraud class action in which the firm has thus far recovered more than $30 million for investors; In re Recoton Corporation Securities Litigation, a complex accounting fraud class action; Macomber v. Travelers Property Casualty Corp., a landmark class action challenging the legality of certain insurance industry practices; and a variety of other securities cases, including In re Tower Automotive Securities Litigation and Stevens v. GlobeTel Communications Corp.
Mr. Ciarlone graduated from Cornell Law School in 2001, and received his B.A., magna cum laude, with honors, from New York University in 1998, where he studied Political Science and Sociology. At Cornell Law School, Mr. Ciarlone was an editor of the Cornell International Law Journal and, at N.Y.U., he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Kappa Delta, and was both a Founder's Day Scholar and a Dean's Circle Scholar.
Mr. Ciarlone has authored and contributed to articles that have appeared in a number of publications, including the Connecticut Law Tribune and the Quinnipiac Health Law Journal. His articles include "Medical Malpractice Cases In Connecticut: Infertile Grounds For Bystander Emotional Distress Claims," which appeared in Volume VI of the Quinnipiac Health Law Journal, and he co-authored "Cybersmear May Be Coming to a Website Near You: A Primer for Corporate Victims," which appeared in the Defense Counsel Journal (January 2003). He has also been interviewed by and quoted in several leading newspapers and business publications including Forbes, the New York Post and the San Diego Union-Tribune, in connection with articles about major securities fraud cases.
From 2001 to 2003, Mr. Ciarlone was associated with Cummings & Lockwood LLC in its Trial Group, where he handled a variety of commercial litigation.
Mr. Ciarlone is admitted to practice in the courts of New York, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia. He is also admitted to the Bars of the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, and the District of Connecticut.
