Second Circuit Affirms $1.75 Billion Turnover Judgment Won by SBR for Victims of Iranian Terrorism
SBR and its co-counsel represent more than 1,000 Marines and their family members who secured judgments against the Islamic Republic of Iran arising from the October 23, 1983 terrorist attack upon the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. These plaintiffs hold several billion dollars in judgments against Iran and certain of its agencies. In March 2013, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York ordered that $1.75 billion in Iranian assets that the plaintiffs had succeeded in freezing in New York be turned over to the plaintiffs. On July 9, 2014, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed the $1.75 billion turnover judgment against Iran. The successful appeal was argued for the plaintiffs by SBR partner James P. Bonner. A copy of the decision is available here.
